Richard sounds like the rod had some hidden damage otherwise the line would have broken. As far as a good rod I'd say it depends on what your willing to spend, for under $100.00 you can get some great rods , I myself like the Skeet Reese rods!!!! Hope this helps ya!!

It had to be something bigger...A bass isn't going to break a rod that's rated for 75 lbs. Your 10 pound test would of broke first before your rod. To come to think of it, it had to be a defect in your rod. You can get a really nice bass rod for under 100...you something in the 7ft med to med-hvy action, with a moderate to faster taper...with a line rating of 10-20 lbs and a lure rating of 3/4-1oz...remeber, your going to be targeting bass...so make sure you get a freshwater, bass rod. Anything bigger, or more stout, you wont be able to cast light, small lures.

TFO has just introduced a line of rods designed by Gary Loomis that retail around $100. Haven't tried one but if Gary designed it, it should be pretty good!

I really dont know what it was, It was basically a wooded area in some woods about 20Mi from my friends house i was the only one there and if someting big can be in like a 200x200 foot pond i dont know what in gods name it is and the rod i had before i do not think was a fresh water rod.

I'd recommend a Berkley Cherrywood rod, you can get one for around $30, I have 2 of them and they're great for the money.

Great suggestion Bass or Bass. The Cherrywood is an excellent rod for its price range. If you want to get into the $50 to $75 range, try the All Star rods, another top pick.
