Second, Were i fish its really windy so is there any way to make them heavier and go farther? |

I love tubes. I usually fish them with a twitch/hopping action, but you can also swim them up and down through the water column. As for the wind, maybe try using a weight that is slightly heavier, or you can cast sidearm to reduce wind resistance. What species are you fishing for? When I use tubes, I generally have the most success when I imitate crawfish, hopping it right above the rocks and gravel. Hope that was helpful, and good luck! |

Well....being as he posted this in the Bass forum...I would guess that's what he's targeting. Just be careful '151, the heavier they are the faster they sink...and get hung up! You should be able to toss a tube pretty good with that life members outfit...I use mine for light soft plastics(6 inch worm with 1/16th oz. sinker) and it works great. |

Hey 151...Finally got your rod and reel!!...Cool...I don't bass fish much, only 2-3 times a year, this past summer when I went bass fishing Upstate NY, I used a few tubes with good sucess. The tube was made by Venom. Melon green in color and it was heavily salted. I caught 4 bass on it. I fished it "texas style". I used a Gamakatsu 3/0 ewg hook with a 1oz. worm weight. I too had to deal with the wind, and I had to make a long cast, about 20 yrds to get my bait down the slope. With that said, I too used a twitch/hopping retreive. I'd cast it out, let it hit the bottom, then reel in the slack, twitch the rod up and down, let it hit the bottom again..and just keep repeating...This was dead summer, so I fished it slow and methodical. To my surprise, it worked. I've never used tubes before, but now I will always have a package of them in my tackle box. Good luck...Keep us posted..Vito |

Vito: If you want to get the most out of those tube baits invest a couple bucks in some tube jigheads. They are designed so that the head of the jig fits inside the tube and the eye is forced through the bait before you tie on. A much "cleaner" presentation than the Texas rig.

10-4, Pegsguy, When I bought the tubes, it was a last minute purchase. I didn't think of the tube weights. But you can bet I will have them for next year, for a more cleaner/more controlled presentation and retrieve. That's why I rigged it Texas style, but it still worked, got caught up a few times on rocks and weeds, but thats expected. |

I do better on the smallmouth with tubes. In fact tubes are one of my go to smallie baits. But I've had a few good largemouth bites on tubes. One of my fishing partners loves tubes for largemouth. His retrieve is random, jerky and looks uncontrolled. I can't duplicate it and our local largemouth can't resist it |

Another idea for using a tube is to put a small chunk of cotton or sponge in the tube and soak it with scent. |

Try using "ez tube weight" they come in a few different weights and the bigger size have a rattle built into it I've had some good luck with them, used 2/0 and 3/0 with watermelon yamamoto tubes and 1/8th ez tube weight Good luck |
