i'm looking to go around the 18th of feb.  am still looking around for some inland lakes to fish as back-up in case the bay isn't solid.  bought a book online that shows all the lakes in that region, but haven't got it yet.  hopefully soon...  if you know of any public access lakes in the area please let me know.  thanks in advance

Right now it's not looking good for the saginaw bay. If you want some up to date information go to the  http://www.michigan-sportsman.com/ it is a excellent information site for our area and also they have forums that have posts on northern Mi lakes. Right now it looks like we may not have any real safe ice on the bay. The saginaw river opened up the other day and they put the docks in at the local launches. There have been guys out on the bay fishing but there also have been a bunch going through the ice also. My friend were out perch fishing the shallows and were doing real well but he called me the other evening and told me he's done until it stiffens up. he saw 5 guys go through. We had a strong west wind today and what ice was left on the bay is probably gone now. I know a few of the northern lakes had safe ice but you still had to watch where you were going because there were still bad spots. Houghton lake witch usually has very safe ice by this time of year still has some sketchy spots.
