snowmobile trail permits went up to $45.00  this year. unfortunately if you ride a snowmobile on a trail to go hunting, fishing or trapping you need this permit. i think a sportsman permit with a fee of $10.00 or @15.00 would be more in line. this permit would allow trail use for hunting fishing or trapping ,and still help the snowmoble clubs with the expence of grooming.i have emailed my state reprsentative frank foster about this.  i was wondering how many other ice fisherman feel the same way???? if enough of us feel this way maybe this will work.

Well you don't need a trail permit to ride on the ice if you are going to and from your fishing spot.
But what I think is ridiculous is that you need one to drive down county roads and I will never ride on a trail. Plus here in Gaylord the rails to trails is maintained by the snowmobile permit money but in the summer anyone can use it for hiking, biking and I have even seen horses on it( and they don't have to pay). I think they should have to pay a fee also since they are using it too. That way the cost for trail permits for sleds would come down.

been a hot topic for A few years now.......talking about all the different people that use the state land and don't have to pay the user fees for it. it goes on and on that list does
the hunters and fiisherman carry the biggest share of that load every year. i do understand about the trail permits thou. also i would like to add....that i know of a few people that have been ticketed for running on the ice without trail permits over the years.

Agree 100%! Why don't hikers and bikers have to support the trails they use. Also, I think that most of the money goes to UP trails? In Whiteuall we can't even usr the trail!

They should have fought the ticket. I got a quad the other day so I am going to sell my sleds anyway. But I see ORV stickers are going up to. And yes us hunters and fisherman pay for almost everything in this state. If they would just ask us what we think they would be able to make more money and be able to cut the cost of things.
