For approximately the last week or so my security software has been giving me a threat warning every time I open my first thread of the day in the forums. Some days it is one item, some days two.Has anyone else had this problem?

Not with this forum. But in the past I have gotten warnings on differant forums. Once on the Ohio forum and another from a hunting forum.

That is definitely a cause for concern. But you have to remember that the world is full of people with very little to do. They hack, they scam, they steal. Recently, my Facebook account, which I rarely even use, informed me that "an unauthorized user tried to access my account" from Pakistan! No joke! I had to change my password because some lunatic in a third world apparently came across my account and wanted to glean personal and financial information from it or whatever. There are hackers everywhere. I would not be surprised if one has infiltrated this site in some form as well. Everyone be careful!

Odly, I didn't get the warning today! Maybe the IT guys found it and did a purge.

    Definitely not a security glitch.

There is a group of viruses / malware that started just before Christmas. They are variations of ones that have been out since 2003.

Our fellow Life Member turnip caught a variation...and over the last couple of days...I was able to help him get rid of SOME of the files involved...but there were 5 files we couldn't delete.

To make matters worse...the malware was blocking ALL ".exe" type files...so that you couldn't run almost ALL antivirus-antimalware programs.

We got rid of SOME files involved by just looking in Temp & Temp Internet File folders.

We then did a Right Click on one we couldn't delete...and did a scan with Microsoft Security Essentials (software he has on his computer)...and that got rid of more.

Then we did an online scan from this website...got rid of more stuff...

Then today I discovered this scan software...and since the extension at the end of the download isn't ".exe"...we were able to run it...and destroyed a LARGE amount of stuff

Try using Hitman Pro. That got rid of the malware on my brothers computer when nothing else would. It has a 30 day free trial. You might also try going into Safe Mode and using system restore at a point before he got the malware. I would actually try that first. Malwarebytes is also very good. There are also programs that will unlock files so you can delete them. Unlocker is one I have used before but there are several more that are also free and they all do the same thing. Another option is to use a Linux OS that will run from CD or DVD. LinuxMint is what I would use. After it boots you can try using antimalware (AVG free is what I would suggest but you can Google for others) that will run on Linux to check all the files on the hard drive altho I haven't had very good luck doing that myself. Good luck.

If you aren't a gamer I would suggest running Linux for your everyday use. Once again I like LinuxMint since it has proprietary software already installed. Makes it a lot easier to use out of the box. You can do everything in Linux that you can do in Windows except run most Windows games tho some of them will run using the Wine emulator. Most Linux OS's are free and there are very few viruses that target Linux.
