I use trolling as another way to catch fish. It is not the only way I fish, but rather a tool. I troll for Northerns, musky, Lake Trout, Walleye, Land Locks, rainbows. Pretty much in that order. For northerns & musky I use diving lures trolled behind the boat targeting certain depth along a drop off. For Lake Trout I use a downrigger with xmas tree riggs or dodgers and peanuts or spoons. I also use dipsy divers. For Walleye I use most of the above with worm harness, diving lures, spoons. I not only use dipsy divers but jet divers For Landlocks & rainbows I use downriggers with dodgers & flashers with spoons & peanuts, I also use jet divers with wormharnesses. This year I hope to add leadcore to my list for Walleye Lake Trout, Landlock and rainbows. |

Hey Wellsley, I troll in the spring time, from mid April to about mid may. I have a few umbrella rigs set up with shad bodies and tubes. I also troll bomber parachutes. I'm targeting Stripers, with the occasional Bluefish caught in the mix. Once mid may comes around, the bay is loaded with bunker and trolling kinda ends for me. Then I switch to drifting live bunker or anchor and fish cut bait until the water temps rise and the stripers move out of the bay and into the ocean. By then I start to target fluke. |

Walt I'll have to hook up with you when the weather gets better. I shouldn't have any problem with time off I get 4 more furlough days after April 1st. I hope to be able to make the Northeast meet in May. |

Ha ha when I was very small, my uncle took me fishing on Lake Champlain. Down diggers for land locked salmon, we only caught 1, so we trolled crankbaits along a RR track that crossed the lake in about 10' of water and caught smallies. It was an awesome trip. Every time I tried to take a bite of my lunch we'd hook another smallie & they were enormous! |

They don't call it the sixth great lake for nothing... 110 miles long lake with some of the best fisheries anywhere. Great warm water fisheries and a great cold water fisheries too. Lake Champlain is really like 3 lakes in 1. Many of the bass pros consider it the best bass fishery in the USA. Heck you really never know what to expect next that might be on the end of your line. |

I never tried trolling for lg. mouths, but walleyes are pretty easy to troll for. With a downrigger I use a crawler harness 20 to 25' down. Or I use a small dipsey 100' back with a crawler harness. A deeptail dancer (rapala) 75' to 100' back works as well. |
