Hello All, My name is Dwayne, age 49 and I live at Smith Mountain Lake Virginia. I've been an avid sportsman all of my life and I want to go fishing. Problem is I have 2 boats and all kinds of gear and am newly disabled meaning, I cant lift, bend, twist more than about 10 pounds, so as you can see that presents several issues. I'm hoping to find some new friends to take me fishing. I can stand, walk or sit for short periods of time. I can afford to help with expenses such as fuel, bait, snaks. I love crappie, bass and catfishing. I understand stripper fishing is popular here. I have never fished for them but am willing to learn. I prefer to fish from boats because I like to move from spot to spot when fishing is slow.
I became diabled from years of hard work which caused spine problems. Was diagnosed Sept. 2010 and had surgery Sept 2011. Have been recovering at home and saw my doctor last week and was told I will never return to work. This itself was a major blow mentally. I've always prided my ability to work and work hard. I have not been fishing in almost 2 years because of this. I spend most days wishing I could do something. I dont live on the water and can't load or launch either boat.
So if there are any members in my area that are retired or just have some time and would like to go fishing please contact me thru this post.
Thanks Dwayne |

Understand the problems with spinal degeneration, my wife is a nurse who had to retire because of spinal problems. My problem is mainly my knees, I bought a bass boat a few years back and now I have trouble getting out of the seat. I do wish you well and hope you can find people locally who can help you. Allen. |

Hey Dwayne. Sorry to hear about your condition. Sounds like John might be able to get you out on the water. You might want to also try posting this in the Virginia thread. Maybe you and John can find a few more fishing buddies in there. Good luck to you. Keep us posted once you guys get out there catching fish. |

Thank you everyone for the warm welcome and kind words. I've been a member of NAFC for about 20 yrs and if memory serves me a lifer most of them too. I will be contacting John to see if we can get together soon and dip the lines. The winter has been mild and just seems being on the water would be better than sitting at home. Thanks Again |

That's a real tough blow Dwayne but I sure like your attitude about getting back into fishing. I'd be willing to bet you'll feel a whole lot better with a fishing rod in your hand. Good luck and good fishing too. |
