Hey guys I’m new to the carp game. I have always been a bass fisherman.  But this season I’m opening up to some new fish and carp is a big one. I live in south-east Michigan and there a lot of carp at the local metro parks. I have heard that they put up one hell of a fight. I know of using corn or a ball of bread. But other than that.  I don’t know much about the ins and outs of carp fishing.  Such as hook size, line, other baits and anything else I would need to know.  Just wondering if anybody could give me some pointers.

    Thanks

    Bassman

    Bassman,
A very popular technique now is fly fishing for them. They are being billed as the poor mans bonefish.
Ashes to ashes, dust to dust, if it wasn't for my super smooth carbon drag, my 30 year old Trilene would bust!

    BASSMAN

Carp fishing has been a big deal all over the world for a loooooooooooooong time and America is just now starting to catch on. Carp are statisticly the WORLDS most popular SPORT fish and are gaining acceptance here in America. I lived in central NY and carp fishing is becoming a big deal there so I started doing some research and trying to target carp. Now thousands of carp later I am HOOKED. Carp are pound for pound the strongest fighting freshwater fish you can find in North America other than the Sturgeon and I fish for them quite often as well. I am the Idaho state chairman for the Carp Anglers Group. It is a great place to learn how to target carp. Baits gear hooks line etc etc. Most of the anglers on CAG fish euro style long rods baitrunner reels rod pods with alarms etc etc its kinda cool or crazy depending who you ask to see what we carp anglers get just to target carp.......We have thousands of people on the CAG forums to talk with and tons of threads already up with more info than you could probably read in a year. There are free forums and members only forums but please by all means go to www.carpanglersgroup.com and see what you think. There are members in your area that I am sure would be willing to meet you on the banks somewhere and show you what we do and why we love it so much.

I fish for all species of fish but when I am fishing just for fun you will find me targeting either sturgeon but most of the time CARP... I have bass fisherman ask me all the time why I would want to catch carp and I laugh and tell them I would rather spend my day fighting several small 15lb carp then pulling in fightless BIG 5lb bass lol.....

Check out CAG and let them know Idahocarpin sent you. Feel free to send me a private message and I will get you contact info for the Michigan state chair if you are interested.... I can also give you a easy go to bait and rig set up to get you on your way to catching some monster carp.....
