Hi! Just picked up a Pad Crasher and I was wondering if any of you have suggestions for how to fishing them, anything unique that you do that makes them more effective.  The lake that I fish has a few weeds, but for the most part is a clear, rocky basin.  Any techniques for the frogs, other than a straight retrieve in lilly pads?
    Thanks,
    The Maniac

Hmm...almost sounds like your lake would be better suited to bouncing a squarebill crank through the rocks than frog fishing. At any rate, try to find some grass/weeds/pads and toss that Pad Crasher right in there. Try working the edge lines of that cover also, in a "walk the dog " retrieve. Most important...when a big 'un blows up on your frog...try to resist the urge to set the hook. Give her some time. I know, easier said than done, but you'll greatly improve your hook up ratio.

Well if it is rigged weedless which i presume it is , toss it as far back into the pads or slop as you can , then let it sit for a while then hop it along like a frog each time it hits a open pocket let it sit for a moment before moving it again. Please note your hook up rate will not be that great but then again there is not a lot of lures you can toss in there, and there can be some giant bass that don't see many lures . use a braid of at least 20 lb you need to get the fish back out of there .

If the lake is relatively clear I would try to target any type of high vegetation or down trees. In lakes clear if I’m going to use a frog. What I like to do is toss the frog on shore and give it a little hop off and just try to work it as naturally as you can. One of my favorite ways to work it like mo said is to walk the dog. Sense the lake is clear try using more natural colors.

WE cant stress the fact that don't set the hook tell you feel the weight of the fish and you may want to learn how to sharpen hooks if they slide across your finger nail instead of instantly grabbing it with light pressure then it is not sharp enough . Just do a search for how to sharpen a hook .

Yeah that was my big problem. When I first started frogging was I would try to set the hook way to early and I lost some real nice fish that way.

I think I said this in another thread, but it's important enough to say again. Spread those hooks a little away from the body. This did more to improve my frog hookups than ANYTHING. It is a "night and day" difference.
