Hey Wellsley, you've neglected 3/4 of the States population. There are 1000's of shore fishermen that live on Long Island and NYC. From the Rockaways all they way out to Montaulk..1000's of people fish the south shore and north shores of the Long Island Sound. It's too bad the club kinda neglects us Saltwater guys...I always thought there was an ocean somewhere in "North America". You would never know it by reading there magazine or thumbing through the forums. Hope I didn't offend you, that's not my intention.

I think Barresi has saltwater pumping through his veins...hee hee. Didn't ol' Stevo do a saltwater show recently?

Haha..yes Mike, ol' Steve-O did do a show in the salt. He was offshore down in Fl or something fishing for Marlin or Sailfish..can't exactly remember, but let's keep it real, I wanna see Steve do some saltwater fishing that the average Joe can do..and do on his own. Like Wellsley said, shore fish. I'd like to see Steve-O out on the point in Montaulk, in waders on the rocks, surf casting for Stripers and Blues..That I'd pay to see!

Not offended Barresi, Ok tell us about your shore fishing in salt water. I've salt water fished from shore myself. I fished the docks at the lilco plant in Inwood and the docks at Inwood park. Also docks in woodmere park. I fished for snappers, blue fish, porgies and stripers. Also blue claw crabs and eels. I tried surf fishing in VA with no luck. Wasn't really sure what I was doing.

Well, you got me there Frank!... My shore fishing experience has been limited, practically non existant. I've been fortunate enough to fish from a boat the last 10 or so years. Years ago, when i was in the Army, stationed in Hawaii, I fished a few times from various spots around the Island from shore. Too bad I didn't have a clue as too what I was doing. Recently, the past 3 years, the Blue Claw crabs have been outrageous! There's a spot under the Belt Pkwy( from shore), in East NY. No crab trap needed. Just your fishing pole. We tie on a piece of raw chicken, then toss it out for about a minute or so...then slowly reel in. With in an hour or so, we have a 5gal pal full of big Blue claws. Occasionally, I thumb through the member pages, and see a lot of people from NY, and Long Island, that have zero activity on here. I, like you, would like to see more NYer participation in the NAFC. The club kinda neglects the saltwater fishermen, they give us two topics in the forums. So If your new to the club and check out the forums, as a saltwater guy, you would be discouraged. If it wasn't for the couple of friends I've made here (my coffee club buddies) I probably wouldn't stick around either. I've been trying to get some involvement, I created the group "NY City Limits Fishing" in hopes to get other city dwellers to join, and do some shore, dock, pier fishing..so far no takers. The "saltwater fishing group" is dead as a door nail too. Hopefully it will pick up this spring.

I was rambling on about the salt, I forgotten that I do fish from shore. When I go up to Lake Welch and Lake Sebago to get my bass'n on! My family and i go twice a year, in the beginning of summer and at the end of summer. Unfortunately, that is the only freshwater fishing I do.

Your right Barresi, there are a ton of NYer's in the NAFC. But not very active here. I've been to both member meets here in NY and both are attended more by out-of-stater's. Sad, I've been trying to get more people active in this thread in hopes it will break the ice and open the door for more people to use it.

I haven't fished from shore in many years except for some fly fishing some streams. Now I am thinking to give up flyfishing for those sweet trout in the streams too. This legs just aren't as flexible and nimble walking over slippery rocks and moss in those streams, especially in swift current. I think I am going to stay with my comfy cushioned seat in my boat.

i live on the black river and fish it often from shore for various species of fish. i am blessed that the dynamic changes so quickly. go from trout behind my house to pike and walleye fifteen miles to the north with small mouth bass in-between. shore access is limited but there

I live on the Island and do most of my surf fishing on the south shore and fire island beaches for almost everything you can find up here. From bass and blues to false albacore right now. Montauk beaches are almost always great and there are some secret beaches I know on the north shore that are good. Good Luck
