My wife and I got some time yesterday to hit the local river.  Weather was upper 60's, lower 70's, sunny skies.  Spent about 4 hours on the river, mostly Czech nymphing with my favorite go to fly, size 24 zebra and/or tiger midges.  On top, we had prince nymphs, size 18.  I also brought along an 8wt with some sinking line that I usually use on the coast.  I wanted to strip buggers, as I'm not that confident in buggers.  WOW!  My attitude changed yesterday.  To start off, my finger is still healing from surgery two weeks ago and the first cast sent pain shooting up my arm.  I quickly realized I can cast left handed, more or less.  Then I switch out and start stripping.  Long story short, my wife caught her PB trout, about 20", while I caught two back to back biggies stripping a black bugger, size 12.  We managed to C&R a couple of others, but these were our best for the day.  BTW, my wife isn't use to trout this big and lost a really big one at the net (wouldn't wait until I reached her to help) as it snapped her 4X tippet.  Later, she had another one snap her line, just after she landed her PB.  All in all, a great day.  We got out to the river around 10:30 and left around 3:00.  Mid-day fishing, gotta love it.

Brian, we're from Central California, living in the small US Navy town of Lemoore. We're both retired sailors and try to get out and do as much fishing as we can.

I thought the backdrop looked alot like some of our waters here in utah, namely the Provo or Weber rivers. Looks like classic western trout country to me.

Oh, you recognize the spot?  We usually avoid the Kings all summer only to start fishing it from around November through spring.  As a matter of fact, we'll be making our first trip this fall on Friday.  Got some reports from friends that fishing is good now on the afternoon hatches for fish up to 20".  Time to try out our newly made 4wts.  (We make our own fly rods).

Well I have only fished there one time as it is almost a two hour drive for me but the pictures looked very familiar and you stated you are from Lemoore so I figured the odds were high that you were fishing the King's. I'd like to get back up there someday but I usually only have time to fish on the weekend and I hear it gets very crowded on the weekends, especially during the summer. It was quite crowded when I went.  The local fishing reports always seem to include some nice trout taken there fairly regularly.
Good luck next time you head up there.
