Where I live there is a 5 acre pond in the community.  I fished it a few days ago with good luck.  Today I went back and fished for about an hour and a half, catching a 15" LMB and a 14" crappie...Woo hoo, let the season begin!

    Attaway Pete,
Good to see you active on the board and on the water.  I haven't fished for about a week now, but will be going tomorrow when Prober comes down for a couple days of chasing Steelhead.  Rivers are kinda high, but we'll get after it nonetheless.  Tight lines my man,

Good luck Dave, don't forget the camera. I'd have to ice fish where I live. But there is alot of open water in places around NY

Well it was an interesting day.  Started out innocent enough.  Met Prober just after 7, had some breakfast and headed toward the coast.  River looked good, visibilty wise but was a little high and current was ripping.  Got our waders on, headed down the steep trail and I decide to take a bit of a tumble.  After about 5 minutes let the pain subside a bit, we got on down to the river.  My heart wasn't much in it and I was hobbling around quite a bit.  We fished for a while and went back to the truck with no fish.  We headed to another river which was a little smaller and quieter with easy access.  Matt missed a couple fish right off the bat and the bite went cold.  I went back to the truck while fished a bt more.  When he finished up, we headed to the emergency room, got an x-ray and low and behold, I broke my tibia, just above the ankle.  Got a splint andwrap and instructions to see my doctor to have a cast put on when the swellling goes down.  %%()^$&9 out for at least a month inthe middle of the Winter Steelhead run.  Prober went back down tonight to fish tomorrow, I'm laying on the bed, foot elevated and just p.....ed.

We play the hands we're dealt.  I have to take a tumble once or twice a year just to keep me slow and focused when I'm fishing our rivers solo.  Fortunately I was with a buddy again this time.  I'm already working on putting felt furniture pads on the bottom of the crutches.  If  can find some with a large enough footprint..........

Boy what a bummer. 2 years ago I sat out the whole ice fishing season with a cast on my left leg. So I know how you feel.

Today I went out to the pond, about 11:00 am, and managed to catch 4 nice bass...3 were 14" LMB and the first one was a 13" crappie. All were caught within the first 45 minutes that I was there (I was out only an hour). I only used one bait this time. It was a Rapala Original F-9, depth = 3' - 5", floating in all chrome with red gills. I've been using this lure in ponds for some time now. I haven't had any luck with it in lakes or the Mississippi. So I went and bought the same lure in the F-11 size because the diving depth is 4' - 6'...Perhaps this will make the difference...

The ice is starting to thaw a little bit more and hopefully this weekend I will hit a lake somewhere. I’m going crazy.

    Happy Fishing
