Today was funny. I can't get bass to bite, anymore, but I caught a walleye. In fact it was my personal best. This may prompt you to wonder, "ooooo how big." I don't know but it was legal and all the other walleye I've ever caught weren't. Anyway I'm guessing a little over 2 pounds. I was seriously thinking of eating it, but didn't have anything to keep it with/in and I'd already had it out of the water for a while, so I didn't even pose for a pic, just tossed it back in after showing it to my wife. She says it might have been 17 inches, but I think it was over 20 inches. Anyway, it was a fat fish. Again lots of green sunfish and bluegills. One bass. Everything was on a Mepps Thunderbug.

I saw lots of fish today. Lake Lotawana in MO now has Zebra Mussels and the clarity of something like Lake Tahoe. This allows me to see lots of fish when we scrape the mussels off the floats and frame to the dock. The bluegill go nuts eating the mussels, but it also attracts bass and a channel cat. These fish seem pretty comfortable feeding right next to me while I'm in the water. It's pretty amazing how quickly they learn that if we make a certain scraping sound, the lunch buffet is open. They'll peck at any dark spot on your skin, like moles, nipples, a smudge of grease on your leg, even the string that holds the nose piece on my goggles. Right up in my face. The biggest bass I saw underwater was around 4 pounds and more skittish than a couple of others. A channel cat came by, but I made it pretty nervous and it left. We looked under this big submerged stump and found a 15-20 pound flat head. It was completely unafraid of us until I poked it and it swam off only to be replaced by a slightly smaller one 10 minutes later. I'm going to figure out how to video this underwater and post it up. You guys will be amazed.

Well, I picked up some live shiners this morning, thought I'd try a little live bait for bass and cats. I barely got my lines out before the rain cut loose...that weather goob said 30% chance...should have said 130% chance! Next thing ya know lightning is flashing, thunder is rolling, so I retreat to the van for some lunch. After a while I'm back in business, but the live bait thing is a bust! Fished it all day without a nibble. So I'm thinking...hmm...If I don't do something soon this post will be in the "Who got skunked today?" thread! Before giving up, I hauled in the live bait lines and retrieved my trusty spinnerbait rod from the van. A few casts with a black/blue Mini-King and the skunk was gone! Maybe next time I try the live bait I'll fish the evening.

I caught about five or six bluefish today off the beach using a diamond jig. No stripers fluke or weakfish

Me! Well actually it was Friday. I finally made it to Moses Lake to meet up w/ Hossinonomous and he took me out- for smallmouth. First cast I hooked and landed my first walleye! Then nothing. The wind picked up so we moved to a more protected part of the lake and after a few minutes throwing a spinner w/ no luck, went to a Clackin' Rap. just a few casts and I got about an 8" smallie. Hoss didn't have the same kind of luck- personally I think he was sand-bagging so I'd feel better! ;-)
This morning we're hitting Potholes for MORE fun.
Largemough, smallmouth or walleye, I don't care, just as long as the thunderstorms keep their distance. I'll try posting photo(s) later but you know how much luck I have w/ that...
Have a great day guys!

Way ta go Prober...hope you guys get on them today. Old Hoss sure ain't sandbagging when it comes to Fantasy Fishing...He's still leading the Misfits...and I don't think we can catch him.

Prober has a bit of a drive ahead of him this afternoon. Not a great day on Potholes but we didn't get skunked. Prober got big fish of the day and biggest bag, I landed one and lost one. I'll call it a long line release. As for fantasy fishing, I'm not that far ahead. And after this week everyone should be a little closer!

Good things come to those who bait... Hoss in Wa

I caught two footballs and a bunch of smaller smallies and one fat northern 28". The pic didn't do it justice.

Right on Wellsley! Great fish...glad to see some lunkers on here instead of the scrawny ones I've been catching. Speaking of...I caught 8 more of them this evening...and three of them were on my newest hand carved crankbait by Dave Barnett of Missouri. Thanks Dave for another killer lure!
