Wow.  I've been a life member for years now, and I get a postcard in the mail saying I need to reactivate or I will lose my life member benefits.  When I signed up, the guy on the phone promised me a rod and reel combo.  Then, when I called a couple months later, they told me I didn't qualify because I got a "discount" life membership.  This has got to be about the lamest organization ever.

At least, years ago, the magazine was decent entertainment.  The average number of pages per issue has decreased from around 100 to about 60 or 70, and much of it is now full-page ads.  Most of the articles tell me I need to have a slew of special rods and fancy reels, then go on to list about every type of lure imaginable as something to try.  Whatever happened to good outdoor writing?  Oh, yeah, I also have a smartphone and 2 or 3 GPS/sonar units in my $50,000 boat, pulled by my high dollar pickup.  Oh, and I get to fish in all these great places 1000 miles from my home.  Sheesh!

The other "benefits" aren't really of much use to me.  I tried field testing a couple of products, and got some $2 packages of lures that didn't work worth a hill of beans.  The other benefits, I could care less.  Anyway, back to my original topic, yes, I reactivated.  You got my money, so your durn right I want to at least keep getting the magazine.  I'm sure it will be coming soon that the paper magazine will cease to exist and everything will be on the web/phone apps.  I suppose a guy will have to get a laptop next to the toilet to replace the old-fashioned stack of fishing mags, eh?  Give me a break.

By the way, I still fish the same way I did before I became a member and catch just as many fish as I did then.  Rant over.

OK...think I get it now. I noticed this is your first post jignrap, I'm thinking they're sending postcards to non-active life members wanting them to reactivate. I haven't got a postcard, and when I checked that ACTIVATE tab, it said I was "already active". If this is the case...its a bunch of crap! You bought your life membership...it shouldn't need to be reactivated. And I have never heard of a "discount" life membership, how much does that go for? Web Guy Greg was the only one around here that would have straightened this out, but he is gone. How about Kurt Beckstrom, or Jim Edlund, are you guys still alive? I would like to here some answers on this...I'm sure some others would too!

I think what is alarming is the fact that the Powers that Be are able to change whatever they want, whenever they want without any warning and without any say from us members. We paid our dues, a lot of money actually if you're a Life or Trophy Member, and I do think we deserve a little more respect sometimes.

Thanks, guys. I know it's not cool for a guy to just begin using a site and start to rant, but that's half my point. I've been a life member for I don't know, close to 10 yrs now, and a member for quite a while before, and after all that I get told to "reactivate". Anyway, it seem like they are inventing ways to either try to get more money from us (more and more elite levels of membership) or reduce their costs (make the magazine smaller and try to get rid of "inactive" life members). Hey, if you business model didn't work out right, don't take it out on us - we paid our money and are owed a decent product - for life! Maybe the honchos need to stop flying all over the continent for their fishing trips and reinvest in the company. OK, OK, I'll simmer down now, I promise.

Hmm...guess he slipped out the back door...don't remember seeing any notice of that in the forums...but it does fall right into what we're saying here.

I would like to thank you jignrap for stating your dilemma in such a way that avoided cursing and name calling. We have had enough of that as of late with a few "disgruntled members"(NAFC=SCAM was his username).  Why don't you try hanging around on the site for a while? There are some good guys on here.

i don`t come on here very often the main reason is i usually have no idea how. but in the last 6 years i`ve slowly found out some of the things dealing with online. it is hard for a 72 year old to pick up some of this jargen. for me a little instruction would be nice but again i`m just 1 person. forgive me guys i`m just rambling. thats one of the perks of age. capt quantum i appreciate your words about cursing & 4 letter words . i`m sure we have ladies & i dislike using foul language in mixed company. i like every bodies comments. old boy from lake of the ozarks now living in west tx

yea I don't really under stand the activate thing either. You would think once they took your money you would be automatically activated. From a business point of view though think of all the money and crap I can save if you don't . You will not be eligible for the contests .

Perhaps they want to offer us more benefits but more then most likely not . I am still waiting for the lots more to come from being a trophy member . At least that is what the flyer told us .

Take a kid fishing , If the fish aint biting entertain them. Photobucket

Life Membership would normally be $299, but we'll give you a "dues rebate" for all the dues you've paid in the past to encourage you to make this lifelong commitment to the enjoyment of fishing. With a VALUE OF OVER $1,010.00, it's a great deal for you!

I can find this but nothing about "dicounted" member ship !!!!

Hey mo good to here from you. I did not know that "Web Guy" Greg Huff had left, what for ? I have been reading the forums and judging by what I've been reading, Getting a life membership was a bad idea on my part, I hope not. Thanks for the info.
