i have upgraded my field tester profile a couple times and then a couple months ago i went to upgrade it again and it said i had not upgraded my profile since 09. i didn't join for the freebies but i have many friends here (and for that......I THANK GOD)

You can either call them 1-800# or send them an E-mail and ask them whats going on! Wouldn't be the first time wrong info was sent out!

I am not sure how long I have been a life member. I assume about 15 to 20 years. I have never received a field test item, but that doesn't matter. I was supposed to get a free gift when I joined, but never did and that didn't matter.

I used to read the magazine from cover to cover. I usually turned to the last page to read the funny stories, but they went away. I learned tons from the magazine.

Then my health started failing and I couldn't fish any more (it sucks when I am only 46). But the magazine comes on a regular basis. I hand it off to my Grandson and now he reads it from cover to cover. I am hoping to get back on the water this year because he wants to go after whales (he is young) and he doesn't have a Father around.

i think sometimes people expect WAY TO MUCH out of their life membership. just be happy to be a life member and enjoy what they send you. post on the site, send emails, take advantage of the CHAT room and meet fellow anglers. Everything will be OK.

Wow.  I've been a life member for years now, and I get a postcard in the mail saying I need to reactivate or I will lose my life member benefits.  When I signed up, the guy on the phone promised me a rod and reel combo.  Then, when I called a couple months later, they told me I didn't qualify because I got a "discount" life membership.  This has got to be about the lamest organization ever.

At least, years ago, the magazine was decent entertainment.  The average number of pages per issue has decreased from around 100 to about 60 or 70, and much of it is now full-page ads.  Most of the articles tell me I need to have a slew of special rods and fancy reels, then go on to list about every type of lure imaginable as something to try.  Whatever happened to good outdoor writing?  Oh, yeah, I also have a smartphone and 2 or 3 GPS/sonar units in my $50,000 boat, pulled by my high dollar pickup.  Oh, and I get to fish in all these great places 1000 miles from my home.  Sheesh!

The other "benefits" aren't really of much use to me.  I tried field testing a couple of products, and got some $2 packages of lures that didn't work worth a hill of beans.  The other benefits, I could care less.  Anyway, back to my original topic, yes, I reactivated.  You got my money, so your durn right I want to at least keep getting the magazine.  I'm sure it will be coming soon that the paper magazine will cease to exist and everything will be on the web/phone apps.  I suppose a guy will have to get a laptop next to the toilet to replace the old-fashioned stack of fishing mags, eh?  Give me a break.

By the way, I still fish the same way I did before I became a member and catch just as many fish as I did then.  Rant over.
Wow, you really got cheated!  I've been a member for 3 years and have only received only one product test, so you aren't alone.  I have also realized lately that I'm somewhat "lucky", as some members have been with the club for as long as I have and have never received a product test.

Currently, I am paying $18 a year for the magazine and use of the club forums.

I almost forgot to add that the website is in sorry shape, as well.  Turnip is completely right.  A few years ago the forums were absolutely packed.  Now I'm just talking to myself!

I do, however, like the renovations.  The site's new skin looks very nice.

Hey All,

We recently posted the following information on a different thread and I just wanted to pop in and provide you with the info as well in regards to product testing. NAFC officially switched the Field Testing Program to be powered by StuffStuff last week, which was the week of July 16th.

The reason why we made the switch is that we received negative feedback from our members regarding the Field Test program, so we put a group of dedicated club employees to work solely on improving the product test benefit. After listening closely to you, our members, we have found that we were not providing products to test in a timely manner and members were receiving products that they didn’t want or couldn’t use. This resulted in manufacturers not wanting their products in the old program because they weren’t receiving the amount of feedback they needed. This new program gives manufacturers more exposure and in return, they insert more products to test in StuffStuff, which means more products for you to test. To help you navigate the site, check out www.stuffstuff.com/faq and the tour video located at http://www.stuffstuff.com/Video.aspx or if you need assistance with how to register, you can follow this step-by-step guide:

http://www.stuffstuff.com/Portals/0...shing.pdf.

If you have any questions on how to use StuffStuff, there is a team of StuffStuff support ready to help you. You can contact them 3 ways:
1. Email at support@stuffstuff.com
2. After you have a StuffStuff account, log in to www.stuffstuff.com and click on the orange feedback & support tab on the right edge of your screen
3. Private message StuffStuff on Facebook (www.facebook.com/stuffstuff).

We hope you will take advantage of the new program and enjoy it much more than the old program.

Thank you,

Web Master

Opinions are like sphincters, everybody has one. Well here's mine. Just drop the whole field test idea. This StuffStuff thing simply sucks.

I got the email about the switch to "StuffStuff" too. I finally decided to give it a whirl and see if my cynical nature was going to be validated with a bad link or some other snafu related to the website.

I was not disappointed. The new site works as well as the old program did.

Granted, I didn't necessarily join for the freebies either; but there is something to be said for upholding an agreement and providing what was advertised. So far, about the only things I've goten was a forum that is barely usable and a magazine that contains all the same information I can watch on TV for free.

Seriously guys, at this rate I'm not only not going to go "Trophy" or "Life" member; I'm not even going to renew.

The shame of it is, it wasn't always this way, Some of the deterioration I can blame on the club, but some of it seems to be a lack of members posting fishing related info in the forums, replaced by an endless stream of complaints, some valid, most due to unreasonable expectations.
