OK, for about 2 years the biggest fishing chip on my shoulder has been the fact that I have never caught a trout. I did research, asked around these very forums many times, asked around at the pond, still to no avail. Well today with the sun setting on a beautiful (rare) 70 degree day a gorgeous brook trout struck my Rainbow Trout colored Acme Cleo spoon on the last cast of the day. Definitely the greatest catch of my life, it wasn't huge but it was my first trout and I am beyond excited to be able to say that I have now caught one of the most "educated" fish in my home waters.
PS anyone want to give me a quick tip on how to get a picture of the beauty up? |

Congrats skewl! If you are having trouble loading the pic check the size...if I remember right...the size limit is 500kb. For best results here...go through photobucket. If you still need help, let me know.

WTG a new species is always fun to catch. It's even better when you can identify them, so excellent work. |

I love catching new species of fish. Congrats! Just recently, our family guide with a guide on Lake Tahoe just to catch huge lake trout. Well, we caught lake trout, but they weren't huge. Still, a new species and a lot of fun bringing them up from 200'. I'm with bpeterson regarding the fly rod. Once you catch your first trout on a fly rod, you may never toss spinners or spoons again. |
