Caught my first bass this past week.  Dinks but bass non the less.  Fished Kawea and plan to check out Success lake from kayak perspective.  Where are some productive spots and what lures work best?  I know time on the water is the best advice, but I'm new to freshwater and all I know is senkos work well.  Any help will be appreciated.

I could go on for days with all the techniques you could try for bass...but I'll just name a few that I know work for me. Try spinnerbaits. Try crankbaits(I like squarebills in stumps&rocks, lipless in grass). You're right about Senkos...great worms...there are several good ways to rig 'em too...wacky style, Texas, Carolina, drop shot. By being in a kayak, you can reach fish that guys in boats miss. Fish way up in the shallows, under docks and boats, rig your Senko Texpossed without a sinker. When it gets hot and the bass won't hit anything...toss a bubblegum worm(that's right...pink) into a tight spot and hang on!

Ashes to ashes, dust to dust, if it wasn't for my super smooth carbon drag, my 30 year old Trilene would bust!

I agree with mo65. Those techniques will work on CA bass. I tournament fished Lake Success for 3 years (with no success), but still knew how to get bass into the boat. Problem for me, and other participants, was getting any size of bass into the live well for weigh ins. Senkos was my best choice as well as those for others. If you're in a kayak, I'd nose it into the trees at the opposite end of the dam. Should be the eastern shoreline. I'm not sure of the depth, as it will fluctuate throughout the year(s), but those trees could be on dry land or almost in the middle of the lake. Anyways, nosing my bassboat into the trees and dropping wacky rigged Senkos was productive, but I'm sure a stealthy kayak would be even better. Also, consider tossing Senkos, jigs or even dropshotting at the dam. Those rocks produce well. They get beat up heavily during tournies, however. You can launch a kayak anywhere on the lake. I would recommend you go around the lake and launch off the shoreline instead of launching at the campground or boat ramp. It will just put you closer to more productive waters. Simply put, just look for structure. One more thing, bass should still be shallow and on their beds. Water clarity can be pretty good if you want to sight fish. Please do not take these spawning bass, though. Good luck.

Navy, send me a message and we can meet up at success. I have a tarpon 100 so we can do some fishing in the trees and up the rivers. Senkos work great at success.
