Pictured below are five Peanut Flies that I tied and two of my hottest spoons that I am donating to the Ohio Member Meet.

    Photobucket

The flies are made of a #4 2x treble, crystal flash, 272 Denier Gudebrod nylon thread, glow peanut head, red beads, small snap and 20" 20# florocarbon leader material.

How does that work? Do you troll those? Is that a packing peanut? is it fished on the top or witha a spoon trailing it? I've never seen anything like that. Im assuming it is used for great lakes trout/salmon?

I can see me trying to cast that with a fly rod and finding a trebble hook in my ear.

These particular flies are trolled, usually behind a flasher of some kind. They are used for salmon, trout and even perch have grabbed these suckers! Yes, used a lot in the Great Lakes, but also finger lakes and other sizeable bodies of water. The peanut is of foam, painted with either a solid color, glitter or even a glow combination (available commercially) and in many different sizes. This fly is fished below surface level (depth determined by temp or where marking fish or depth of water).

I really like those spoons turnip!
Ashes to ashes, dust to dust, if it wasn't for my super smooth carbon drag, my 30 year old Trilene would bust!

Mo, those spoons have been extreamly good for lake trout, rainbow, brown and landlocked salmon.  Erabbit has been field testing these for a few years.  Walleye Wayne (Canada) has also had luck with the chartruse one.  We will be giving them a work-out the end of May at lake Seneca, NY.

The black spoon is a lightweight flutter, painted black with colored strip tape (available online or at tackle shops) and VMC treble hook.  The chartruse colored one is a little heavier and broader than the black one.  Also a VMC treble hook...The folks at the Ohio meet love these spoons...Hurry-up, you can still buy a chance to win these at the meet!

I guess I should add that these spoons as well as the peanut flies are used with downriggers or leadcore or dipseys...
