Hey fishngolfer...I'm not from Florida, but what you can and should do is once you get settled, go to a local bait and tackle shop and ask whats biting and how they are catching them. They should be more than happy to help you out. From my experience fishing saltwater in NY, there's a few universal baits that will catch a lot of different species of fish. For example, clam will catch Striped Bass, Blue Fish, Weakfish, Sea Bass and Porgies. Florida you should be fine with shrimp or small crabs...or whatever bait fish is down there. As for tackle, being that your going to be fishing from shore or a pier..I would go no less than a 7ft, med/hvy spinning rod (so you can make long casts) spooled with either 30lb braid or 20-25 lb mono. Use a leader...25-30 lb flurocarbon leader such as Seaguar or something similar. A couple of barrel swivels and a few fish finder rigs you should be good to go. Hook style and size is going to depend on what your going to be targeting. (bait and tackle shop guys). Sinker..depending on current/wind..3-5oz bank type sinkers should be sufficient. Hope this helps...Good luck and have fun! Don't forget to post a pic of your catch when you get back. |
