Saw this on the Bass Pro website today, basically an Alabama rig designed for only 2 baits, obviously to circumvent the laws in some states (including mine) that only allow 2 lures max to a line. At first I thought it was awesome, but then I decided that only 2 baits was completely defeating the purpose of an umbrella rig. This just seems to me like they slapped a hot marketing label onto something similar and even more limited than the old War Eagle FrontRunner or the Bass Pro Shops DoubleTake rig. Thoughts?

Here in Ohio, the law states you can only have two hooks per line, so guys are fishing umbrella rigs with three dummies and two with hooks. Seems to me that your chances of getting bit on the right one would not be so good! The interesting thing about the Double Up rig is it can be fished with any two lures...or combinations of! The ad on Lurenet shows two Pop-R's....yes....very interesting!
Ashes to ashes, dust to dust, if it wasn't for my super smooth carbon drag, my 30 year old Trilene would bust!

Some folks use a spoon as a flasher ( attractor ) then another lure or hook with the bait on it . Used a lot in ice fishing.
I have seen Tandem spinner baits with that config, (Y)
Another popular presentation  was the three way swivel .  Use a jig  or sinker as the dropper  and a crank bait or what ever for the main to get it to go deeper .
Take a kid fishing , If the fish aint biting entertain them. Photobucket

I did see the two topwaters in the photo, that did look interesting. That wire better be pretty light for that to not sink the lures though. And if this can be used with any two lures, why can't a normal umbrella rig be used with other lures than swimbaits? Seems like somewhat of a paradox to me, though maybe just good marketing!

Skewl, I can testify that it is light enough to throw two Chug Bugs on. The odd thing we noticed was that it made the Chug Bugs walk (walk the dog - Zara Spook) in opposite directions. It was the strangest thing. We haven't really had time to thoroughly test it. Our one trip out after buying a couple of the YUMbrella Double Up Rigs was right after the spawn. My son had lots of small Spotted Bass chasing the thing and caught a couple during early topwater action. I want to try it in other ways too - like the rod tosser suggested above... Jerry A
