I don't know much about sturgeon fishing in Michigan, but here in northern California we use 3"-4" pieces of lamprey eel or ghost shrimp with a pile worm. hope this helps TIGHT LINES TO YOU ALL !!!!

Sturgeon love clams. Otherwise go with a big gob of nightcrawlers. You might also try my favorite channel catfish bait, frozen squid.

I know Im way late on this blog but Ive tried many different baits for lake sturgeon. Shrimp, catfish bait, cut baits. shiners a bunch of fathead minnows on the hook. and the one thing that ive gottem every time was a ball of nightcrawlers. dont leave them stringy and hanging off. hide the hook in worms. and the smaller the hook the better. but it also has to be strong enough to not straghten out. I use number two catfish hooks. I can fit about 3 big crawlers. As for using eel and lampray I think thats more of a white and green sturgeon bait.
