The baitcast reel requires PRACTICE and PATIENCE. Adjust the knob next to the star drag so that when you press the spool release the weight (lure) you're casting drops to the ground SLOWLY and stops the spool revolving as soon as the weight hits the ground. Set up the magnetic brakes on the opposite side of the reel all the way on at first. Practice, practice, practice. As you develop a feel for it you can start to reduce the setting on the magnetic brake one number at a time until you are at about 50%. Have fun. Happy Fishing!
i agree completly baitcasters are difficult to get used to. It definatly takes time and practice if u get confused or cant seem to get it working right just let us know and we can help. -God Bless
