So, my best buddy just got caught fishing without a Washington liscense.  He lives across the border in Idaho  and was caught fishing about a quarter of a mile into the Washington side.  He said the warden snuck up on him and came out of nowhere but she was cool and even bent his hooks with some pliers to reduce his fine (no treble hooks allowed on this particular stretch of the river).  So, my question is have YOU ever received a citation or had an unfortunate encounter with a game warden?

There is a show on the National Geographic Channel called Wild Justice and it is about the California Fish and Game Department.  It is a really great show and you can really tell how dedicated and professional the agents are when it comes to their job.  It gave me a whole new level of respect for that profession.  Like you said, if you're in CA, you better be on the up and up or you WILL get busted!

I had my boat pulled over last weekend and they checked my fishing license. Last year I had my boat pulled over and they checked my life jackets. Two years ago they checked my cooler for my catch only problem is I catch and release. And three years ago they came along side of me and checked my boat stickers.

Other than being checked now and then for my fishing, or hunting license and Duck stamps w/it, [I had it all] I have never had a problem with Game Wardens.

No problems. I have been checked out for all the required boating safety equipment and fishing license an a few occasions. Once they asked to see the carcase of the bass we had for dinner as on that lake there is a slot limit and we were within compliance. Arizona Fish and Game officers or the Sheriff's department were very friendly and professional on every occasion.

No events w me either. My encounters w wardens and sheriffs are usually when I see them and go to talk with them. I read and firmly believe they may be the best resources for fishing info on any given body of water

I've never even been checked in 4 years. It might be because I don't fish very popular waters, but there was one time where I was fishing one of the bigger lakes around here and a guy on a boat had just pulled in and said he saw the Game Warden going around so he gave me 2 trout because he was over his limit. Score for me! Haha

There was one time I was fishing off of a dock on a river and, like the friend I mentioned above, I was literally 1000 feet from the Washington border fishing on the Idaho side. I had my WA license but didn't have the $98.00  to spend for the ID license that year. I new it was wrong but I catch and release and was only going to fish for like 20 minutes so no big deal right?  Well, a Game Warden pulled up out of nowhere in his boat to dock it and load it onto his truck, which just looked like a normal truck when I saw it in the parking lot.  He obviously saw me fishing and said to me, "How's the fishing?"  To which I nervously replied, "Not so great."  He then proceeded to load up his boat and drive away.  Didn't even check for my license. Talk about lucking out! This was several years back and since then I have realized if you're going to fish then you need to buy a license and make it legal. I am a firm believer in following the laws of the lakes these days!
