Alaska is a big state. What part of the state does your bro-in-law wanna visit?? What time of the year? If it's just a fishin' trip, I kinda like SE, but, if ya only come to SE, then ya miss the massive beauty of the rest of the state. The area that ya visit, must depend upon your prioritys!

Craig, you've seen my post regarding my 50th birthday and through friends here on the forum (Allen and others), I've finally made the call and booked a week with a fishing lodge on the Kenai for 29 June to 06 July. The rates are reasonable. We didn't want a full service resort where they provide you 5 star food for every meal and unlimited drinks and a hot tub in every room. We want to fish and cook our own meals, even though the lodge does provide breakfast. I think those dates are about the middle of everything. Some dates would have left out a species or two due to season closures. I wanted ling cod, it opens on July 1st. I wanted Kenai king salmon, it closes on Jul 31st. Anyways, I put down the deposit for the week and now just have to think about all the fun we're going to have. I suggest contacting lodges in the areas you're most interested in and ask for DVDs and such. I have DVDs from 5 different lodges and brochures from about 10 others before we finally made our decision based on cost, lodge comfort, variety of fishing available and comments from past customers.  I researched for a couple of years, but it shouldn't take any that long, I suppose, to make a decision.  Good luck.
