My question is, does the 7'6'' old fenwick telescoping fiberglass flipping stick take a baitcasting reel or a spinning reel? Here is the background info: The rod has no trigger. All the old markigs are rubbed off. The only info I have found is that I read somewhere that it had no trigger and someone used a round reel (has to be a baitcast reel?) . I bought this rod at the end of a show while the vendor was packing to go. I believe from what I read in Johnson's Fenwick book it was introduced in 1978 to bolster sales for the flipping stick that was not telescoping because the rod was too long in most boats. I have seen no pictures of anyone fishing either rod. Of course, I have the telescoping model. This is kind of a neat old fishing rod that I would like to fish. I would think a flipping rod has to be for a baitcaster but with no trigger?I hope someone has the answer. Thanks.

99% probobility it s is a baitcasting rod, I say 99% only because I cannot see it. If the guides are of the same size, it is bait casting, spinning rods are designed to "funnel" the line down as it spools off of the reel.

Excellent point about the guides. They are nearly the same size however the first guide is a little larger plus they are all doubled footed. This is interesting since it has no trigger. I wonder if there are other baitcasting rods out there with no triggers. Thanks so much. I think you are right; it is meant for a baitcasting reel. Thanks again.

Double footed is almost always a casting rod
