I'm looking to purchase a Daiwa Saltist linecounter reel and wonder if any of you have any experience with them? Are they worth the money. Will be used on Lake Ontario for King Salmon. Also any ideas on the best place to purchase one. Just about everyone has them for 209 (50 series) but looking for a cheaper one.

Any help would be appreciated Thanks

Welcome to the forums gunmr, and here is the hope you have a good time interacting with others on the Board.
I do not have any experience with that reel or the type of fishing, I might suggest you talk to fisherman locally (always a good idea). I do know that turnip and pegsguy have big lake experience although don't know how much turnip has done lately as he had an accident last year (year before) and was laid up for a while. Turnip was tying trebles and decorating spoons just for that sort of thing a couple of years ago.
Might be someone on www.outdoor-fishing,com who can help you, the guys there are pretty friendly.
Look around and see if there is a state fiishing website (or two), also possible sources of local information.
Price, check on-line markets like Cabelas, Bass Pro, Sportsmans wearhouse and maybe amazon or something like that.

    Good luck and great fishing.

After years of King salmon fishing on Lk Michigan, I would urge you to take a hard look at the Shimano Tekota linecounter. My fishing partner and I have used these for many years with zero problems.

That is a very good reel..can't go wrong with a saltist. I have one, not a line counter model, but the non level wind saltist and it is an extremely well build reel with lots of stopping power. I would definitely recommend it. Unfortunately, you probably won't find it any cheaper. That is the going price, between $179-209. Try ebay, you might get lucky or a used one on ebay as well.
