A person prefishing for a tournament in Lake Havasu caught a 5.7-5.9 pound redear sunfish.  The 5.55 pound record caught tow years ago was also caught by a bass fisherman, on a plastic worm.

    Hello AZAllen,

My wife and I were in Lake Havasu City in late January and I was wondering how the fishing was out there. I did a little research on the internet when we got home and it looks like there's quite a variety of fish in that lake. Have you ever fished it?

I live in Phoenix, but I've never fished Havasu. It's just too far for me. Several good lakes close by.  Lots of bass tournaments there though.

capn, sorry I am slow to reply, I have not fished much there lately as I live just a few miles south of Lake Mojave. My first experience was in March, before we relocated to BHC and I went out with a guide for stripers--went home with a nice batch of fillets. I have watched some shows recently, mainly Johnny Johnson who is an Arizona Pro and he has had shows there several times. I know down in the lower end, the Bill Williams River come in and there is a large, fairly shallow area with reed lined channels. I do know there are lots of varied types of habitat up in Topock Gorge, many of the bigger bass are caught there. I have had some problems which slowed me down some but I do know I would like to try a couple of those places soon.

If you are not a member, www.azbasszone.com is a 98% Arizona forum and people discuss ( and sometimes cuss) the states lakes and streams. I check there regularly.
If you want to go to the Yuma area, www.yumabassman.com is a good source of information and maps.
