Biggest Smallmouth of the Year

Feb 04

I met Jed years ago at one of the many winter outdoor shows I used to man a booth at.  I recall our discussing sweet spots on pools we had both found fishing independently.  Before long we were on the water together, dissecting new pools with jerkbaits, tubes and small swimbaits.

Jed's not only my fishing buddy, he's also about to become my tattoo artist.  In this trip, we take photos and plan for a tattoo that represents the objects of my addiction: merging the profile of a kayak angler with the scale pattern of a smallmouth.  That project will come to fruition later this winter.

In this trip, Jed catches his largest smallmouth of the year on a suspending jerkbait.  The weather wasn't as nice as it is inside the Outdoor Show Convention Center where we met, but it's still nicer to be out fishing than standing around talking about fishing.

I fish for smallmouth and pike from a kyak all summer in Mi.In my opinion its the best most productive way to get to fish that most people cant unless they are doing the same.I use a spinnerbait though.
