July means one thing to fishing equipment manufacturers and retailers around the world—the International Convention of Allied Sportfishing Trades (ICAST). It’s the event where tackle and gear for the coming year is unveiled.
When the doors of the Las Vegas Convention Center opened on Day 2, North American Fisherman editors continued our mission to seek out new and exciting products and share them with Club members. Here’s are three more hot items I know you’ll want to know about right now.
Abu Garcia Veracity Series Rods
Veracity: “The devotion to the truth,” according to Merriam-Webster. That’s a heck of a name to live up to. But after flexing more than a few of the 12 casting and 5 spinning models in the lineup, I think they’ll more than meet the expectation. Weight and balance are impressive, and if you like casting crankbaits, I suggest paying special attention to the 7-foot, 11-inch heavy- and extra heavy-action Winch models.
Daiwa describes its new Tatula line as a “new species” of baitcasting reels. I don’t know about that, but I do like the look and precision feel of these reels. All of them weigh less than 8 ounces, and gear ratios on the nine models range from 5.4:1 to a high-speed 8.1:1.
Buck 030 Splizzors
Combine the cutting efficiency of a high-quality scissors and the gripping power of needle-nose pliers and you get the 030 Splizzors, a whole new type of fishing multi-tool. It also features a large and small crimping tool, bottle opener and a large, comfortable rubber handle.
