I have the trout version and it's a great kit. It comes with a good assortment of goodies for the starter fisherman and is lots of fun for those of us who enjoy the extra action of using smaller gear. Many a rainbow (and an odd catfish) have been reeled in on this combo. The reel has held up for well over a year and the rod is top notch as most of Shakespeare's offerings are.

I casted the trout version of this today. Great smooth feel and well balanced. Im an Ugly Stik fanatic and Id have to say it did remind me of a medium Ugly Stik but it was stiffer than an Ugly Stik of the same size and weight class. Awesome starter outfit and by far better than any kiddie pole. I would start anyone with one of these kits. 1 kit and a spool of line to make leaders will get ya going. Store to water in around $30 is awesome!

A few years back I started fishing again but I didn't want to spend a lot on gear at first so I bought two of these kits I was vary pleased and I still use my cheep Shakespeares to catch northern pike and like them as much as my costly rods.
