Life Member Matt Stevens of Greenwood, Indiana, took the fishing trip of a lifetime courtesy of Newfoundland & Labrador Tourism and the Angling on the Edge Sweepstakes, which was offered exclusively to NAFC members.

He spent six days in early September fly fishing for big brook trout and Arctic char with Cooper’s Minipi Lodges on the Minipi watershed about 100 miles southeast of Happy Valley-Goose Bay, Labrador. He traveled from Indiana to Chicago to Halifax, Nova Scotia to HV-GB, where he stopped at Minipi Outfitters to purchase a fishing license and fill out his fly box. From there, a DeHavilland Beaver floatplane took Matt to the main lodge on Anne Marie Lake.

The lasting effects of Hurricane Earl hampered his success, but not his spirit, during the first few days as he fished the lake and several of its tributaries. Later in the trip, however, Jack Cooper flew Matt and his guide Seumas McGrath to Minipi and Little Minipi lakes where they turned the corner on fishing action.
