Cody Mullennix is a pretty quiet guy, but when he talks blue cats, you can take every syllable to the bank. The accomplished guide first made a name for himself back in January 2004, when he caught the then world-record blue, a 121 1/2-pound monster, while wade-fishing on Lake Texoma.
Although the fish was eventually dethroned from its record spot by the 124-pound Mississippi River cat caught by Tim Pruitt at Alton, Illinois, in 2005, Mullennix’s place among catfishing’s elite was forever secured.
Since his historic catch he has continued to put his clients on huge blues from lakes across the Texas/Oklahoma border country.
In this installment of North American Fisherman’s “Marked Map” series, we gave Mullennix a Navionics HotMaps Premium chart of an impoundment brimming with big blues and asked him to give cat hunters a glimpse into how he would attack it from July through September.
Not surprisingly, he obliged, inking up the map and giving up all kinds of tips and tactics NAFC members can use wherever they target blue cats.
