If you are a truck or SUV owner who is faced with some serious traction issues and your rig isn’t already equipped with a locking rear differential, never fear – the aftermarket is here to save the day. Several manufacturers offer locking differentials, with retailers who market and install their products.
Among the leaders is ARB USA, (866) 2939078, which makes the air-activated ARB Air Locker. Another excellent choice is the Eaton E-locker, (800) 328-3850, which utilizes an electromagnetic locking mechanism activated by a dash-mounted push-button, to provide great traction on demand. It’s actually what is already on many GM trucks and SUVs.
I’d also highly recommend Auburn Gear’s, (260) 925-3200, Electronically Controlled Traction Enhancing Differential (ECTED). The ECTED is cool because in the off position it functions as a limited-slip differential. When the dash-mounted switch is on, the differential becomes a locker.
You can purchase these – and their installation if you are near the brick-and-mortar stores – through places such as 4Wheel Parts Wholesalers, (877) 474-4821); Reider Racing, (800) 522-2707; or the Drivetrain Warehouse, (888) 432-7656.
Locker prices range from $600 to $1,000 depending on product type and vehicle application.
