Surfactants, like sodium lauryl sulfate (SLS) and alpha olefin sulfonate (AOS), help hand soaps and dishwashing liquids dissolve oil and grease. They also repel fish. In fact, the U.S. Navy has experimented with them as shark repellent.

After putting on any bait, I'll wash my hands with a little sand/dirt and water. This is ALL natural and seems to work best.
