MINNEAPOLIS— Following the success of the 2010 Fish-A-Thon, Fishing For Life is seeking anglers from across the U.S. to join Jeff Kolodzinski’s as he once again challenges his Guinness World Record of 2,143 fish caught within a 24-hour period. In addition to fishing for 24 hours straight, participants will also raise money for Fishing For Life and a charity of their choice.
FFL is seeking 5–10 participants to take part in the Fish-A-Thon 24-Hour Opener on Friday, July 29, 2011. The anglers will fish from their remote locations while the event is simulcasted nationwide. In addition, they will raise a minimum of $2000 in sponsorship money.
This event is part of a greater fundraising effort known as the Fish-A-Thon where kids fish to raise money for charity. In addition to securing sponsorship dollars, Marathon anglers will distribute Fish-A-Thon pledge packets to kids and families in each of the participating cities. The kids will then go out to their communities to gather pledges for each fish they catch during the month of August. All funds raised from the local Fish-A-Thon pledges will go to a charity chosen by the Marathon participant.
Both events will serve to raise funds and awareness for Fishing For Life as well as the chosen local charities.
In 2010, Kolodzinski, who set the record for most fish caught in 24 hours in 2009, challenged his own record and helped the organization raise $170,000 for more than 20 Twin Cities urban youth organizations.
